It was just a chat between three hobbyist in photography. When one decided we need to visit a great place in Surigao Del Sur, which is known for a beautiful water falls called Tinuy-An Falls. When all of us agreed to visit, right then and then the other person surf and bought a ticket straight to Davao.
Date is set, September 20 -23, 2012 a trip to Davao via Cebu Pacific, we took the first flight which is 4:10am. No time to sleep the day before the flight. Need to pack the camera and the accessories and my clothes. I was so excited for this trip. After a decade, I am finally going back to Mindanao / Davao. Arriving in Davao at 5:50am.
From the airport we hired a taxi cab (Taxi Fare: Php 187) going to the bus station called Ecoland Terminal where the bus supposed to be leaving going to Mangagoy, Surigao Del Sur (approximately 200kms of Northeast of Davao City). Talked to some of the people in the terminal, the first and last trip of the aircon bus going to Mangagoy was at 2:00 am and the next trip going to Mangagoy, Surigao Del Sur is 9:00am which is already an ordinary bus and it will take 7 hours or worse up to 8 hours to be in Mangagoy, Surigao Del Sur. We were in the terminal before 7am and it will be a waste of time to wait for the bus. So we decided to hire a taxi going to Mangagoy. There is this one guy that been talking to us, asking where we are going. We told him that we will be going to Bislig, Surigao Del Sur. He told us if we want to hire a taxi instead of waiting for the bus. Three of us agreed on hiring a taxi. This guy talked to some taxi drivers and asked for how much it will take to go to Bislig, Surigao Del Sur. Talked to two drivers and the last guy agreed to be paid at Php 2,500 but ended paying Php3,000 you will know why, below.
Leaving the Ecoland Terminal after drinking a coffee, thinking it will be a smooth ride going to Bislig, Surigao Del Sur with this taxi instead of the bus. Half way was a fine ride, over looking the beauty of Mindanao. How green the mountains are, how clean the air is. My eyes was amazed and can’t stop loving what I am seeing at that moment. There is a portions of the road going to Bislig, which is under constructions. This is the part of Agusan Del Sur, around 15-20 kilometers of the road in under constructions. It was one heck of a ride passing that portions of the road. The taxi driver told us that there’s another route, but it is longer so that’s why he took this route. After a long tiring ride, we finally reached the town of Mangagoy, Surigao Del Sur and asked the people for directions going to Bislig, Surigao Del Sur Municipal hall.
Arriving in the Municipal Hall of Bislig to make a courtesy call to Hon. Mayor Librado Cubil Navarro. Entertained us to his office and we asked for permissions to photograph the Tinuy-An Falls and able to stay a little late at the area. He asked his assistance to call the Manager of the Tinuy-An falls to allow us to stay a little late. After a few chat, we took some photos with the Mayor. We then go to the office of the Department of Tourism and met Sec. Lorelei D. Lim. She called Paper Country Inn to reserve a room for us after learning that we still don’t have a place to stay. And she even asked one barangay captain for a ride going to the hotel. But of course we didn’t want to bother anyone, so we decided to hire a tricycle (Paid Php 100) going to Paper Country Inn (PCI). The room cost is Php 900 for twin bed, because we need an extra bed we are charged an additional 250 pesos per day.
Arriving at the hotel, the three of us decided to take our lunch there and talked what time we are going to the Tinuy-An Falls. We have a few hours of rest and refresh ourselves before taking off to Tinuy-An Falls.
I will end it here and the next article/s will be posted all about my adventure to Tinuy-An falls itself. The photos and how we get there. For now, enjoy a few shots I taken before reaching the Tinuy-An falls.
This is our aircraft, the Cebu Pacific Flight 5J961 from Manila and now in Davao. The first flight of the day. Welcome to Davao.
The bus terminal that the bus supposed to leave bound to Mangagoy Surigao Del Sur. Look for the BACHELOR BUS with sign MANGAGOY, this will take you to Surigao Del Sur. First trip is an aircon bus but leaves the terminal at 2:00 am. And the next trip will be a ordinary bus and will take you 7 to 8 hours ride going to Surigao Del Sur.
A stop over at the PUNONG RESTAURANT at Davao Del Norte. With our brunch, eating a local delicacies called Ginataang Bagongon. It surely taste good. You should try it out when you visit the area.
These are just some of the views we’ve seen along the way. From Davao, passing the mountains of Campostela Valley to Agusan Del Sur going to Surigao Del Sur. It was a rough ride going to this route. But we manage to arrived safely. So many to see so many to mentions, but these are just the few we encounter along the way.
