For now, I can not answer this question as I haven’t experience the Sinulog Festival yet.
But I can tell that my first experience of the DINAGYANG FESTIVAL was great. It was a sudden trip to Iloilo City, a photographer friend asked me to join them for a photo shoot of the festival. Though I have only a couple of weeks before the Dinagyang Festival starts, I decided to purchase the ticket via the Cebu Pacific website.
A search over the internet found a few information’s how to get an Media/Photographer pass for the Dinagyang Festival. Though the deadline was over, I took a chance to email the person in charge and asked if I can still apply for the ID pass. And lucky enough, the next day I received an answer that they are still processing applications. Yes, I got the Media/Photographer pass and I have to pay P500 pesos. Thanks to Ms. Pearl from the office of the Mayor of the Iloilo City.
What is Dinagyang Festival?
Dinagyang is Iloilo City’s version of the Ati-Atihan festival widely celebrated not only in Panay Island but also in other parts of the country. It may not be as ancient as the one in Kalibo in Aklan Province, but is definitely impressive in choreography and striking in terms of the various attires worn by participating tribes which reflect the ingenuity, craftsmanship and artistry of the Ilonggos. – For more information’s about the history you can visit Dinagyang website.
I am amazed how organized the Dinagyang Festival are. There are 11 participants in this year Ati-Atihan competition, but the Tribu Miro is a non-competing participants. They are the true blooded Ati of Iloilo City.
Four stages are set up in different area of Iloilo City, where all the participants have to perform. Different stage with different judges. There are also a stage where people can watch, but you have to pay for a seat (P1,200) for two days of performance. And the seats are all numbered and so there are no confusions on where you will be seated. While photographers and Media are placed in front of the elevated stage.
Anyway, here are the photos of the participants of the DINAGYANG Festival.
Champion – Tribu Panayanon
1st runner-up – Tribu Ilonganon
2nd runner-up – Tribu Salognon
3rd runner-up – Tribu Milagrosa
4th runner-up – Tribu Atub-Atub
Next are the photos of the other participants. Who also energetically gave their full performance at the event.
These are all the participants of the Dinagyang Festival 2013. It was my first time to experience this festival and I truly enjoyed it so much. I can’t wait till I visit Iloilo again next year for the Dinagyang Festival 2014.
This is your Pinoy Adventurer, until the next Dinagyang Fetival.
